Remote Onboarding (Rise)

E-learning
E-Learning, Remote work, Onboarding, Custom Blocks

An onboarding course designed to help new remote employees navigate early challenges, including prioritization, communication, and defining success within their first 30 days.

The Challenge

New remote employees often experience:

  • Overwhelm from competing priorities

  • Lack of clarity on expectations

  • Ineffective communication across channels

This leads to reduced confidence and slower time to productivity.

My Approach

I applied a learner-centered design approach focused on real-world application rather than passive content consumption:

  • Anchored the experience in relatable workplace scenarios

  • Structured content into clear, actionable steps

  • Designed decision points that mirror authentic remote work challenges

Key Design Decisions

  • Scenario-Based Learning: Learners practice prioritizing tasks and selecting communication channels in realistic situations

  • Progressive Structure: Content builds from foundational concepts (Week 1 priorities) to long-term success (30-day outcomes)

  • Reflection & Application: Prompts encourage learners to align learning with their own role

  • Practical Tools: Included a usable onboarding checklist to support the transfer of learning

Accessibility & Inclusive Design

  • Structured content to reduce cognitive load and support clarity

  • Designed with multimodal elements to support different learning preferences

  • Ensured navigation and content flow were intuitive for first-time users

Use of AI in Development

  • Generated draft slide content in Rise to accelerate development

  • Refined AI-generated content to ensure clarity, tone, and instructional alignment

Impact

Learners leave with:

  • Clear strategies to prioritize effectively

  • Confidence in communicating within remote teams

  • A structured approach to achieving success in their first 30 days
